Lingua Sacra ("the App") is a ministry owned and operated by St. Patrick Priory, Inc., a separately incorporated religious nonprofit. These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and St. Patrick Priory, Inc. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Lingua Sacra is an application for learning Ecclesiastical Latin, available for iOS and Android and as a web app at applinguasacra.com/app. The App provides lessons, vocabulary exercises, prayers, and related educational content. On iOS and Android the App is designed to work offline, with optional online features including account creation, cloud sync, study groups, and daily challenges.
Creating an account is optional. If you create an account, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account.
You agree to use the App only for its intended educational purpose. You agree not to:
Group features allow users to form study groups and view shared leaderboards. Group members can see one another's display names, XP, streaks, and lesson progress. By joining a group, you consent to sharing this information with other group members. Group creators may have administrative abilities within their group.
Some lessons and features are free. Others require Full Access, which you can buy in two forms:
Who bills you. Purchases made in the iOS app are billed by Apple through your Apple Account. Purchases made in the Android app are billed by Google through Google Play. Purchases made in the web app are processed by RevenueCat Web Billing, with payment handled by Stripe. Your purchase is also subject to the terms of the store or payment provider that bills you.
How to cancel a subscription. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Full Access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
Deleting your Lingua Sacra account or uninstalling the App does not cancel a subscription billed by Apple or Google; cancel it with the store as described above.
Refunds. Refunds for purchases made through the App Store or Google Play are handled by Apple or Google under their refund policies; we cannot issue refunds for those purchases ourselves. To request a refund for a web purchase, contact the support address below.
Apple Standard EULA. If you obtained the App from the Apple App Store, your use of the iOS app is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These Terms are between you and St. Patrick Priory, Inc., not Apple, and where they differ from Apple's agreement for the iOS app, Apple's agreement controls to the extent required.
Changes to the free tier. Which lessons and features are free, and which require Full Access, may change over time. A change will not take away Full Access you have already paid for during the period you paid for, or Full Access from a lifetime purchase.
The App, its design, code, curriculum, and original content are owned by St. Patrick Priory, Inc., subject to applicable third-party rights and licenses. Public-domain material remains in the public domain, and third-party liturgical texts, scripture translations, fonts, software, audio, artwork, and other material remain subject to their respective notices and terms. Original source code and original artwork created for Lingua Sacra are licensed under the MIT License, as stated in the LICENSE file that accompanies them; that license does not cover third-party material or the curriculum and other written content. Except as permitted by the MIT License for that code and artwork, you may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from St. Patrick Priory, Inc.'s proprietary content without written permission.
The Latin instruction provided by Lingua Sacra is intended for educational purposes. While we strive for accuracy, we do not guarantee that all translations, grammatical explanations, or cultural notes are free from error. The App is not a substitute for formal academic instruction or authoritative liturgical resources.
We may update, modify, or discontinue any feature of the App at any time. Offline features will continue to function regardless of server availability. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access to online features.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. You may sign out or permanently delete your account at any time from Settings → Account inside the App. When you delete your account, your profile, cloud-synced progress, group memberships, friends, daily challenge results, and entitlements are removed within minutes; payment receipts are retained as required by tax law with the link to your user account severed. Local data on your device will remain until you tap "Reset All Progress" or uninstall the App. Details on what is retained, for how long, and how to exercise your rights are in the Privacy Policy.
Lingua Sacra is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, St. Patrick Priory, Inc. shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The revised version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the United States and the State of New York, without regard to conflict of law principles.
